Scotland raised a number of battalions totalling an estimated 688,000 men. With ten infantry regiments, and one regular cavalry regiment, Scotland contributed significantly for its population size, fighting in some of the bloodiest battles including the Battle of the Somme, Battle of Loos and Gallipoli to name a few.
